Description:
Notes regarding the initial surveying of Cherry Hill that was completed in 1902 by Charles Adams Platt (1861-1933). The notes are handwritten on a typed form and describe the plans for the property. Arthur T. Cabot (1852-1912) hired Platt to develop a house at Cherry Hill, and the notes detail work on the walls, windows, ornamentation, furnishings, gardens, and other details of the project. The notes were likely used for research by Keith Morgan, an art and architecture historian, who went on to write an article titled, "Cherry Hill: Its architecture and landscape," that was published by the Trustees of Reservations in 1991. Cherry Hill was purchased by the grandfather of Eleanor Cabot Bradley (1893-1990) in 1865. As it passed through the Cabot family, additional acreage was acquired and a house was built on the property. Bradley inherited Cherry Hill in 1945 and began living there full time with her husband, Ralph Bradley (1888-1970) in 1962. Together with caretaker Reg Harris, the Bradleys developed the estate to include a woodland walk, horticultural vignettes, and a Sunken Camellia House. Cherry Hill was acquired by The Trustees in 1991, when it was renamed the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate.
