Description:
Photocopy of a typed transcription of the notes of Arthur T. Cabot (1852-1912). The original notes were made between 1902 and 1906, and describe improvements made to Cherry Hill, including a garden and a house designed by the architect Charles Platt (1861-1933). The notes were likely used for research by Keith Morgan, an art and architecture historian, who went on to write an article titled, "Cherry Hill: Its architecture and landscape," that was published by the Trustees of Reservations in 1991. Cherry Hill was purchased by the grandfather of Eleanor Cabot Bradley (1893-1990) in 1865. As it passed through the Cabot family, additional acreage was acquired and a house was built on the property. Bradley inherited Cherry Hill in 1945 and began living there full time with her husband, Ralph Bradley (1888-1970) in 1962. Together with caretaker Reg Harris, the Bradleys developed the estate to include a woodland walk, horticultural vignettes, and a Sunken Camellia House. Cherry Hill was acquired by The Trustees in 1991, when it was renamed the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate.
