Description: Legal contract documenting the sale of Elizabeth Stevens' (1802-1838) inheritance to her brother, James Stevens (1797-1861) for $550. The form has been printed with the details of the transaction handwritten. It describes that Stevens has "remised, released, and forever quit-claimed, and do, for myself and my Heirs...all the Right, Title, Interest, Claim, or Demand, that I now have, or ever, had to...the Estate of Father James Stevens." The Stevens family acquired Ashdale Farm, now Stevens-Coolidge Place, in 1729. It was farmed for six generations before Helen Stevens Coolidge (1876-1962) transformed the farm into an elegant agricultural estate that exemplified the gracious country living enjoyed then by wealthy Bostonians.
