Description: Architectural plan of the Study for the Afternoon Garden. Additional information on item: Miss Mabel Choate, Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Drawing #251-32. ; Fletcher Steele was a landscape architect who did the majority of his work in private gardens. One of his few extant commissions is at Naumkeag in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, a summer home that was built for Joseph Hodges Choate (1832-1917) and inherited by Choate's daughter, Mabel Choate (1870-1958). Steele designed gardens at Naumkeag for Mabel Choate from 1926 to 1958.
