Letter from Thelma Sawtelle to Keith Morgan, 1976 August 1
Type:
Correspondence and communication
Description:
Handwritten correspondence from Thelma Sawtelle to Keith Morgan regarding a meeting between Morgan and Eleanor Cabot Bradley (1893-1990). Sawtelle, who was Bradley's secretary, writes that "Mrs. Bradley will be happy to make an appointment with you." Morgan, an art and architecture historian, wrote an article titled, "Cherry Hill: Its architecture and landscape," that was published by the Trustees of Reservations in 1991. Cherry Hill was purchased by Bradley's grandfather in 1865. As it passed through the Cabot family, additional acreage was acquired and a house was built on the property. Bradley inherited Cherry Hill in 1945 and began living there full time with her husband, Ralph Bradley (1888-1970) in 1962. Together with caretaker Reg Harris, the Bradleys developed the estate to include a woodland walk, horticultural vignettes, and a Sunken Camellia House. Cherry Hill was acquired by The Trustees in 1991, when it was renamed the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate.
