Title: Notchview

Description: Notchview is a 3,108-acre property in Windsor, Massachusetts that was created when Lt. Col. Arthur D. Budd (1882-1965) merged smaller farm estates into the 3,000-acre Notch View Farm. Notchview is a part of the Hoosac Range, an extension of Vermont’s Green Mountains. Much of the reservation is above 2,000 feet; the high elevation allows for snow on the property's trails for more than 80 days each year, making Notchview a popular Nordic skiing destination from December to April. In the early 19th Century, settlers struggled to cultivate the rugged land for farming, but rocky soil and a short growing season ultimately discouraged their efforts. By 1900, smaller farms were consolidated into larger estates.
