Description: Handwritten birthday card from Eliza Maria Judkins (1809-1887) to William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) featuring a color illustration of a maple leaf. "Caimos como la hoja del arbol," is written below the image. On the back of the card is a handwritten message that reads: "William Cullen Bryant with best wishes for the anniversary of Nov. 3rd, 1869. (Commenced this leaf Nov. 3rd, 1864, finished Nov. 2nd 1869.) Cambridge - Mass. U.S.A. E.M. Judkins." Judkins was an artist known for her portraits done in crayon. The card is mentioned in The Letters of William Cullen Bryant in a footnote to letter #1889. William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) was a poet, journalist, and editor of the New-York Evening Post. He was born near Cummington, Massachusetts and owned the Bryant Homestead, now a property of The Trustees of Reservations.
